Helmet
“The story behind the Helmet series starts with a visit to the Altes Museum in Berlin, where a pile of ancient helmets is on display. These relics of fighters from different times represent cultures that used to fight each other. The relics are now captured and displayed in a cabinet together.
The shell, this remnant of man, despite all cultural differences in shape, colour and material, reveals what humans have in common: vulnerability. Is art a means of resistance? Does it fight against disappearance.”
– Ali Kaaf
“The helmets of glass are beautiful, fragile, dark and dangerous. They allude to the person wearing them, and yet the human figure itself is not visible. Instead, the work presents only the object that would shield the person. “
– Jurriaan Benschop
